AUMC Hosts New Member Luncheon
On Sunday Feb. 22, the Worship Committee hosted a New Member Luncheon for those who have recently joined the church and anyone interested in finding out more about membership at AUMC.
Attendees received a copy of “Our Membership Vows in The United Methodist Church” by Mark W. Stamm, which is a great resource on what it means to be a member of the Methodist Church. Pasto McConnell also urged those who attended to learn more about the Methodist understanding of baptism by reading “By Water and the Spirit,” which is available for free download online.
New and prospective members heard Pastor McConnell talk about how membership is tied to baptism, and how this calls us into community with one another. Pastor McConnell also spoke about core doctrines Methodists hold in common with all Christians, and the beliefs and practices that make us distinctively Methodist.
Participants also had a chance to ask questions about membership, baptism and Methodism.
